For immediate release: “Dennis Publishing” is suing “Dennis Publications”
Date: 23 July 2008
United Kingdom based attorney house Simons, Muirhead & Burton are claiming a lawsuit against “Dennis Publications Ltd.” and “dennispublications.com” in order of their client Dennis Publishing Ltd.
On behalf of Dennis Publishing Limited, according to the letter of Simons Muirhead, their client is a leading independent publishing company and publisher of a wide range of well known magazine titles Maxim, Auto Express and Customer Shopper.
It came to Dennis Publishing Ltd’s attention that Dennis Publications is holding out as an entity name which purports carrying on the business of magazine publishing.
Dennis Publishing Ltd has asked us following points:
1/ They want a transfer of our domain name so that they can own it.
2/ Also they want to have details of the number of copies of magazines which we’ve sold and also our customers to whom we’ve sold it to.
3/ And they’re asking a payment, as they call a ‘legal cost’
Comment > President, Dennis Burkasoff
Dennis Burkasoff, President of Dennis Publications LTD:
“After receiving this letter, it’s for me more then clear that Dennis Publishing Ltd, is trying to get my domain name for further business actions so that they could make more profit then they are already doing. A fact is that the domain name www.dennispublications.com was free, so it’s very logical that I was able in registering it. I was born as Dennis Burkasoff and I’m doing publications since 1992. Also it’s very strange that they’re claiming that we’re abusing their name, while in every official communication by mail, phone or website we’re very clear that Dennis Publications is a sub name of Attitude Media Company Ltd. Besides this fact we’re also not publishing the same content such as the magazines coming from Dennis Publishing Ltd. They are claiming that R-Rated Magazine, what’s an online publication for free and hereby I must also add that we’re not selling any printed pieces. My very first publication under Dennis Publications has been in 1999, with the limited edition of the celebrity nude calendar with Miss Belgium Tanja Dexters. When Maxim Belgium started in 2003 in Belgium, with an official license of Dennis Publishing Ltd that has been published by META Media the Chief in Editor of Maxim in Belgium has asked me to deliver the first three Belgium local celebrities for the printed edition of Maxim Belgium. For me personally I can say that it’s very unclear after so many years in being active to receive such a letter today. But if Maxim coming of Dennis Publishing Ltd is seeing R-Rated Magazine of Dennis Publications as a competition I only can say that it’s an honor and a proof that the adult entertainment industry, in the way we bring it in our concept magazine is a success. If Dennis Publishing thinks that I’ll give my domain name to them, they need to think about following legal facts, that a free domain name can be registered without any legal actions by everyone the moment it’s free. And that there’s a difference with our concept, market and our clients. By saying this I close my official statement with following words; this letter and action of Dennis Publishing Ltd, is very low and doesn’t have any official justified points and there for I do not need to be a lawyer in knowing this. I will continue my marketing plan with R-Rated Magazine into the next level under dennispublications.com starting of 01 August 2008 and because of restyling, R-Rated Magazine will be changed into AIQ Lifestyle Magazine (Adult Internal Quality Lifestyle Magazine), what’s already for two weeks in process.”
