Penicillin is used since over 100 years without problem for many bacterias, Syphilis hasn't developed any resistance against it, what is quite rare. Also one must understand Syphilis diagnostics what is tricky as TPHA test will stay positive for many years after an infection, that's good so no one can hide a former syphilis infection and should be honest from scratch. While the bacterias are long gone you still have antibodies which are indicated by TPHA test, so you need other test like RPR too to confirm an acute infection. What damage of immune System?
