The gonzo wave started well before the crisis, but when the economy went down it went bigger because it was easier to get the funds together to shoot.
The here so critizized Russian wave did one good thing for sure, it stopped the Prague/Budapest fee explosion. It all created good surroundings for Private 2.0.As a consumer I turned to Italian feature porn besides my Russian gonzo dose in order to get both. Supply from Italy is more complicated, though. Thus I do wait for that new Private offer.

where do you draw the line between 'Gonzo' and 'quality' porn.

At the end of the day I do not see this as being much more than a 21sextury Gonzo, yeah proabably some scripting happening, they pick a nice new location and spent 10euro on candles. Applied a crap 'soft' effect to the edit to try and glam up. Some thought applied.

On the other hand 21sextury have a set at their disposal all ready and setup.

I see Gonzo relating the filming style more than anything, IMHO most of the best stuff is Gonzo at the moment. Private and other productions just don't offer those lovely picture sets either.

Good question gape. Hard to talk about those specific scenes as I haven't seen them but for me what Private did so well was "set the scene" prior to the sex action, if you like. They allowed you to believe that what you were watching was spontaneous and naughty. It's the whole "suspension of disbelief" that a standard movie sets out to instill in its viewers. Porn isn't any different for me, I still want that premise. I want to forget that I'm watching Claudia Rossi or Sandra Romain film their umpteenth DP of the month and instead think I'm watching some horny secretary/air hostess etc. who just decided she wanted to bang a guy she just met who she thinks is cute.

21 Sextury basically make no such effort. There's a guy, there's a girl, they're in some lounge/bedroom you've seen a million times already, they're gonna fuck, there's no pretence of anything else. Often they won't even say anything to each other before they do so. Some people prefer this, I'm happy with that. I generally find it a non-starter though. It's just a glimpse into porn stars lives and usually comes across as very routine IMHO.

The former doesn't have to be lush or expensive, this is what annoys me a fair bit. It can just be a bit of well-written dialogue, some basic set-up (hell, even re-use the tired "pizza delivery boy" a million times, it's still something), anything that involves a little thought and effort really. It doesn't guarantee you good porn but it certainly does lay the foundations. With a gonzo set-up you have to really pull out all of the stops for me. It's just harder to make it look horny.

I was kind of thrilled when I read that Private had started to release some feature style porn movies because those are the kind of movies that I prefer but the above news is really not good news. No offense but I`m not going to be buy any gonzo style movies from Private because I can already get gonzo from plenty of other sources. 18 movies in 11 days is almost 2 movies a day and tey were all shot in the same location. If this is Private`s plan for relaunching their porn business then they are doomed. There are already too many studios that we donèt need another one.

Gonzo has imho nothing to do with the budget. Its style of filming, involving people that normally
stay behind the camera into the shot. Like director tellin what to do, position changes without a cut, dialogues with the crew and so on.
Unlike feature its a reality porn. For many people this reality part brought all the nastiness in.

Gonzo was an answer to the people that were no more believing those fake feature porn love stories.
If I remember old Rocco's gonzo movies, it was hell of a hot and nasty scenes.

On the other side I think you can shoot very nice fake feature with nice little plot and nice atmosphere as cheap as
gonzo. Only the artistic skills makes the difference.

Basicly for me there are 3 areas formed/growing nowadays:
1/ gonzo, very explicit, straight forward, no plot, mostly online
2/ growing demand fir nice plot, nice picture, a bit softer porn, cinematographic style
3/ amateur online, webcams, interactive stuff
