I hope they are not doing this compression to reduce file sizes! This is the age of broadband, I would MUCH rather get a good quality 4 Gig 1080p file than a crappy 2 Gig 1080p file!

Sure they do compression to reduces files because every bandwidth downloads costs money.

Compressing files is something of an art though, ofc. The point is that the files on these sites are of the same sizes as the other HD sites on the network, so I think the issue the the settings used rather than the raw bitrate.
Most interestingly, this weeks gapeland scene, featuring one of the most gorgious girls of the moment imo, is probably the best picture quality i have yet seen on that site. I am sure the timing is just a coincidence, but a very happy ome to be sure
