My interest in porn started around 1985, when I was in my twenties.
At that time porn was still considered underground, and you could
only buy it in sleazy porn shops in the bad part of town. So it took
me quite some courage to go inside, look around, and buy my very
first porn magazine... After this, my interest quickly shifted to VHS.
I soon realized that there were enormous differences in quality.
There were relatively cheap American VHS tapes, and these were
usually of poor quality. They rarely delivered what was advertized.
If the box-covers announced it as an "anal" movie, you got scenes
with 27 minutes of oral and vaginal and 3 minutes of anal. Often
the hottest fragment were looped, i.e. repeated several times.
As if the viewer would not notice...!? Colours were often poor,
enhanced with some filter which resulted in porn actors appearing
bright pink or orange.....

Well, I think it is fair to say that
most of these American companies were dishonest; they wanted
to make a quick profit and cheating their customers was acceptable.
For me, there were two outstanding companies: DBM and Videorama.
Both were German companies, who made 90 minute tapes, which
were very expensive. DBM tapes were around 150 guilders, officially
that is equivalent to 68 euro, but with inflation correction more
realistic is around 150 euro. In other words, for the price of one
90 minute DBM VHS tape you can now buy 6 Evil Angel DVDS with
each 140 to 240 minutes of content!!
Both DBM and Videorama had high production standards. Sharp
picture quality, good lighting, excellent colours. And crazy content.
Anal, DP, vaginal fisting, anal fisting, DP fisting, peeing, bottles,
cucumbers, guys with gas masks, girls with weird body paint.
Really wild stuff. All the Videorama material was directed by
Harry S. Morgan -- the most productive man in porn? While the
DBM films were directed by Gabriel Pontello and SX Kowalski.
[note: Christoph Clark directed the non-fisting label Clark at DBM.]
When DVD came on the market, around the year 2000 in Europe,
DBM and Videorama were already over their peak. Like dinosaurs,
they were unable to adjust to the new medium.

In just a few years
the porn market was completely taken over by the much more alert
American companies; the finest of these was undoubtedly Evil Angel.
I have a DVD collection of a few hundred titles. Sometimes I buy random
titles, but essentially this is what I collect:
[1] Jay Sin (I am a great fan of his anal-obsessed work)
[2] Christoph Clark (splendid hardcore with gorgeous European women)
[3] interracial anal (black guys with Caucasian, Latin or Asian women)
[4] all-girl (nowadays so much better; with big anal toys, gapes, rimming etc.)
It may be old-fashioned, but I stick to my DVD collection. Because I
prefer to watch porn on a big television screen. On my PC I will
sometimes watch BDSM comixxx [Farrel, Dubigeon, Badia etc], but
that is about it. The poor-quality clips on pirate sites hurt my eyes...
