Question about Usernames

Postby brawnypandora0 on Mon Apr 12, 2010 9:41 pm

Can someone tell me what the name listed underneath your Username means? So far I've noticed that my name is either Ethan Rom or Jim Lafleur. But what about non-Lost character names I see like x-clusive or Mr. Cox? Is this done just for fun, or is there some purpose to it?

Preversion is simply a hypo-correct, substandard form of perversion, a metathetic pronounciation (-er to -re), probably based on a false analogy with the very common vocables prevent or preview. Such an articulation may still be occasionally attested from less literate English speakers, such as children. Somewhat similar is George W Bush's insistence on pronouncing nuclear as *nucular.

American porn movies often use that pronunciation to indicate the character was an idiot ( or at least they did in the days when they still made porn movies that had plots)

Yes Hopless, my usage was ironic, my intent comic. The locus classicus of such usage is to be found in Dr Strangelove, the scene with Group Captain Lionel Mandrake (RAF) and Col. "Bat" Guano (US Army):

I sometimes wonder at the lack of good humour exhibited by our continental friends

Yeah and finally Jeff Bridges got the oscar he should get years ago for his role in the Big Lebowski. He simply is ze dude for me forever :D
One of the best films ever. The Coens are so great.

But the initial question was about the name under your username, in your case "Ethan Rom".
