Yes, If the shoot takes place in the US (or the primary producer based in the US), the performers must have at least 1 American government-issued ID (passport, greencard, driving licence, ID-card) and under the current rules after 9/11 it's very difficult to obtain one.
A group called the Free Speech Coalition fights to pronounce the whole 2257 unconstitutional on many different basis but it will be a long battle and the neo-conservative trend doesn't really promising, even under a new President from 2009

And how does this affect you guys over in the UK? The current UK-based talent pool looks amazing... I mean Ariana Mistry, Delta White, Carmella Rossi, Natalie Heck, Skyler McKay, Anaya Leon, Lexi Martinez and on and on They are all worth the chance of working with the best directors, studios, male and female talent (and obviously get better paid) over in the US. It is indeed a sad day in the porn business if we never get to see these beautiful British babes in any major US productions

Well, yes, but an equally important point is if the Euro stars even WANT to work in LA... And by "Euro stars" I mean the top of the bunch, i.e. Simony Diamond, Bambi, Cayenne, Leanna Sweet, Zafira, Regina Moon, Kyra Black, Roxy Panther, etc. If the best of the best wouldn't want to make the transition even if it were the easiest thing in the world to do, then really it doesn't make too much of a difference for the US. I mean under current laws they have (or have had) Clara G, Maya Gates, Maria Bellucci (even though she was born in Karl Marx Stadt, East Germany, I believe), Jennifer Dark, Sandra Romain, Sue Diamond and Rita Faltayano, just to name a few... If the ones I mentioned above (Simony, Bambi, etc) don't want to go, why should the Americans even bother??

Simony definitely wouldn't go, she never left the country for shoots, not even to Prague or Vienna. Tommy Sy said he wanted to take her to Prague for a scene with someone both knew and they wouldn't even stay for a night just drive, shoot, drive back but she refused to go. Also on most of the jobs her husband is there or arrives during the scene to pick her up. But she's an exception.
Most girls I talked about it, would be more than happy to go to the US. Rita Faltoyano is married to an American guy (Tommy Gunn), Angel Dark also. Those who once had IDs, like a driving licence which was easily obtainable in some states until the recent times can work. If someone gets any permission to stay longer than 6 months (eg. Student Visa), can obtain American driving licence.

I think a lot of us in the UK have our own plans and want to do it in different ways. It is interesting that this has come up and that the general opinion is everyone wants to shoot in the states. Personally I am quite happy shooting in europe. I was actually considering moving over to prague or budapest full time.

I agree that the talent pool in the UK is getting much better in recent months and I am sure a lot of the girls will do great with the big companies in America! If only it was easier for them to get in!!

US companies shot tons of porn in Budapest and Prague before the new 2257 rules. There was a boom really. They also pushed up the fees a bit. Which is good for the girls. And the agencies, too.
